On Monday, December 19, 2016, both NBC 26 (WGBA) and Channel 5 (WFRV) featured headline stories during their 10 pm newscast concerning the assassination of the Russian ambassador to Turkey.
Both stations partially reported on what the assassin said during his attack: “Don’t forget Aleppo; don’t forget Syria.” Noticeably absent from both stations’ broadcast report: the fact that the assassin also stated: “Allahu Akbar” – an Arabic phrase meaning “God is great,” which is often associated with Islamic terrorist attacks. See BBC News for more on this story.
The media and the liberal left have frequently been accused of avoiding reporting on facts that would connect terrorist attacks to radical Islam. In choosing to report in their 10 pm broadcast on some of what the terrorist said, but not all, NBC 26 and Channel 5 committed bias by omission.
