March for Life Media Blackout

WBAY ABC 2  |  WFRV CBS 5  |  WGBA NBC 26  |  1-22-16

January 22nd. The anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision brings about an annual event – a media blackout of the March for Life in Washington D.C.

The mainstream media largely ignores this pro-life rally which draws massive crowds each year.

This year there was an added twist to the story making it even more newsworthy. The rally took place and drew tens of thousands of people to the national mall despite a predicted record-breaking snow storm in D.C.

Each of the news stations in the Green Bay market covered the East Coast blizzard warnings heavily that evening. WBAY, WFRV, and WGBA, however, chose to blackout on the annual March for Life. Not a mention of the rally on January 22nd.

No interviews with any of the local people who braved the weather and travelled to D.C. to be a part of the march. GOP presidential hopefuls also spoke at or weighed in with support for the March for Life. Not a mention of that either on WBAY, WFRV, or WGBA. WLUK FOX 11 was the only Green Bay station to cover the event. FOX 11’s coverage appeared at 9 p.m. in its second half hour.

WBAY, WGBA, and WFRV played catch up a day and two days after the March for Life to report that a group of more than 100 people from the Green Bay Catholic Diocese got stranded on their way home from the March for Life. Those reports focused on the fact that the group was stuck in Pennsylvania due to weather.

We encourage you to contact WBAY, WFRV, and WGBA to express your thoughts regarding their decision to blackout coverage of the March for Life.
